KSU gives CBI one week to demolish temple allegedly built illegally on office premises

SHILLONG, JULY 14: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle on Tuesday locked a temple inside the CBI office here, alleging it was constructed illegally on government premises, and demanded its demolition within one week.
The protest was led by KSU CEC Assistant Organising Secretary Jeremiah Pohthmi. A delegation from the union met the DIG of CBI to submit their grievance.
The meeting, according to KSU, ended in a heated exchange after officials did not provide a clear commitment. Following this, union members proceeded to lock the structure.
Pohthmi said that the union had flagged the issue to CBI authorities several times in the past. He said officials had earlier assured that no temple would be built inside the office.
However, KSU claimed it received inputs recently that construction had restarted. After conducting its own inspection, the union said the work was nearing completion.
“After repeated assurances were ignored, we had no option but to lock the temple. We are giving the authorities seven days to demolish it,” Pohthmi said.
He added that if the temple is not removed within the deadline, KSU will take “stronger democratic steps” on the matter.
The union urged the CBI to ensure that no unauthorized religious structures are allowed inside central government offices and to act promptly to uphold the sanctity of public institutions.
