SHILLONG, AUG 24: Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma on Monday said he respects former Rajya Sabha MP Dr WR Kharlukhi’s decision to quit the party.
“It is a decision he has taken at his own level. I accept whatever his decision is,” Sangma said.He said he shares a long association with Kharlukhi since the time of his late father PA Sangma and cherishes their work for the state and the party.
Sangma recalled that his late father had wanted Kharlukhi to be Rajya Sabha MP earlier but he had declined, following which Thomas Sangma was nominated.
He later ensured Kharlukhi represented the party in Parliament.
Admitting he was personally saddened, the CM said, “People will come and go. I didn’t expect this to happen, but I respect and accept it.”
On whether the party will ask Kharlukhi to reconsider, he said, “We will discuss with party leaders and then take a call.”
