SHILLONG, AUG 24: Two persons have been arrested for leading a mob that assaulted three suspected thieves and manhandled police at 11 Mer, Mylliem on Saturday morning.
According to SP Vivek Syiem, Mawngap PS received information at 5:40 am on Aug 23 that locals had caught three persons — Banshan Kurbah (25), Albert Marbaniang (26) and Ibalabet Kharmawlong (27).
When police tried to rescue them, the mob manhandled and abused the personnel.
The injured trio was shifted to Pomlum PHC and later released as no complaint was filed. Their vehicle (ML05-T-9837) was seized.
A suo-moto case (No. 51(08)2026) has been registered.
The arrested have been identified as Arningson Kharkongor @ Arning (37) and Pynshaiborlang Kharkongor @ Lung Matok (33) of Mylliem Kyndong, 11th Mile.
Police have appealed to the public not to take law into their own hands and to dial 112.
