SHILLONG, JUL 13: East Khasi Hills Police have arrested three adults and three minors in connection with the alleged vandalism and threat at a home stay in Risa Colony and said a chargesheet will be filed at the earliest.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Monday that a complaint was received on July 11 regarding the incident at a home stay named ‘Oak’ in Risa Colony.
“With regard to the incident which happened at the home stay in Risa Colony by the name Oak, we received a complaint on July 11 that two people had threatened and vandalized the guest house and they left without making compensation for the same,” Syiem said.
He said two cases were registered and police teams were immediately dispatched.
“Two cases were registered and immediately a team was sent. The very next day, that was yesterday, to trace these people we were in touch with our counterparts from Assam – SP Kokrajhar, SP Alipurduar and a team from Sapatgram,” he said.
According to the SP, the accused were intercepted at around 4:45 PM on Sunday.
“At about 4:45 PM we intercepted these people by the names Vikas Singh, Avinash Singh, Akand Pratap Singh and three other minors about 17 years old,” Syiem said.
The arrested persons were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Alipurduar.
“After the interception by Alipurduar police, our team from here had gone there and arrested them and produced them before the court of the CGM in Alipurduar. However, as the offences are punishable with less than seven years, they have been granted bail,” he said.
The SP added that the minors were also produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
“The minors have also been produced before the JJB,” Syiem said.
Police have invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“The sections invoked are Section 351(3), 324(3) and 3(5) of the BNS Act,” he said.
Syiem said the investigation is ongoing despite bail being granted.
“Though they have received bail, arrests have been made. The investigation will carry on to ensure that we chargesheet them at the earliest,” he said.
