SHILLONG, JUN 3: The Meghalaya government will take up the pending demands for Inner Line Permit and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule with Union Home Minister Amit Shah if given an opportunity during his visit, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said Wednesday.
Responding to queries on whether ILP would be discussed with the Union Home Minister, Tynsong said the immediate focus is the NEC Plenary but the state would raise long-pending issues when possible.
“Plenary session tomorrow is about NEC, so leave aside that one,” Tynsong said, referring to the 73rd North Eastern Council Plenary scheduled for June 3-5.
He, however, affirmed the government’s intent to pursue the matter.
“So when you talk about the pursuing pending issue, from the government side, yes for sure if we have the opportunity of meeting the Home Minister, we will surely apprise and we will surely talk to him again about the pending issue of ILP and eight schedule language,” he said.
Tynsong noted that both issues have already received legislative backing. “That we have already passed in the assembly,” he added.
