SHILLONG, JUN 3: The Meghalaya government has not shelved the railway project but insists on taking all stakeholders on board before moving ahead, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said Wednesday.
He added that the Inner Line Permit remains the priority issue for citizens.
Clarifying the state’s position, Tynsong said, “Well, it is not only the question of stopping it about this project, we never said that we will stop, what we are saying is that we would like to carry everybody, all stakeholders have to be also on board, that is the main issue.”
He stressed that public sentiment is tied to ILP. “So right now, the most important issue as of today is about the pending issues, what is the pending issue, in fact the stakeholders, even the citizens of the state, what they want is ILP, if that is considered then the second subject, that is the railway project can be discuss,” he said.
On the proposed border fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border, Tynsong said he had no official confirmation but expects it to figure in upcoming discussions.
“As of now I am not aware about it but I think it should also be part of discussion since the meeting is being organized about the development, the security of the entire northeastern states, I am very sure about this subject, maybe discuss,” he said.
