SHILLONG, AUG 18: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday said he will meet the management of NEIGRIHMS on August 19 to discuss ways to improve public confidence in the institute and to take stock of its pending Institute of National Importance status.
Shylla said he has been planning the meeting for some time, citing concerns that the multi-speciality hospital is not being fully utilized by people from the state.
“I have been planning for a very long time because I have seen that NEIGRIHMS is a very big institute with a multi-speciality hospital, but it is not being taken advantage of by the locals,” Shylla said.
“There are certain concerns from the public. That is why I want to go and meet with the management of NEIGRIHMS to ask them what they are planning to do to earn the confidence and trust of the people to take treatment at NEIGRIHMS,” he added.
The minister said the discussion will also cover the institute’s INI status, which he described as important for its future growth.
“At the same time there are other issues also, like what they have done all this time regarding the INI status of NEIGRIHMS because this is also very important,” Shylla said.
He said he will be accompanied by officials from the Health Department.
“Myself along with my team from the Health Department are going tomorrow. There are other agendas as well, but mainly these are the agendas,” the minister stated.
