Meghalaya monitoring dengue closely after Bangladesh surge: Shylla

SHILLONG, AUG 18: Amid a surge in dengue cases in neighbouring Bangladesh, the Meghalaya government has intensified monitoring across border districts, though officials say the state has not recorded any unusual spike so far.

Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday said precautionary measures are already in place, with frontline health workers and mobile surveillance units tasked to track symptoms and mosquito breeding.

“We have alerted all our field teams, particularly in the border areas. They have been told to stay vigilant and report immediately,” Shylla told reporters.

According to the minister, routine data from health centres shows no abnormal trend at present.

“At this point we have not received any alarming reports. Our surveillance teams are on the move, assessing the situation on the ground, and things remain under control,” he said.

The department has asked Sub-Centres, PHCs and CHCs to act as the first line of reporting.

“We have a wide network of health institutions across the state. We have instructed them to remain on high alert and to inform us the moment they see any suspected case,” Shylla added.
