SHILLONG, SEPT 11: BJP MLA AL Hek has claimed that Meghalaya’s political landscape is shifting and the BJP has a clear opportunity to form its own government, after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
Hek, who met Shah on Friday, said the political situation in the state and the road ahead were discussed at length.
The Pynthorumkhrah legislator said the contentious FCRA Bill also came up during the discussion.
“We had a detailed discussion on the FCRA Bill. The Home Minister said he has already met at least 35 Christian forums and leaders on the matter,” Hek said.
Quoting Shah, Hek said the Bill has now been sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
“After the JPC process is completed, he will invite us to Delhi for further discussions with Christian stakeholders,” Hek quoted Shah as saying.
Hek said he briefed Shah on the emerging political scenario in Meghalaya.
“I shared my assessment of the emerging political scenario and our vision for the coming days. We discussed the evolving landscape and the clear opportunity before us to emerge as a strong, credible and independent political force,” he said.
Making BJP’s ambition clear, Hek said he sought Shah’s blessings to build the party for a solo run.
“I sought his guidance, encouragement and blessings as we move forward with a clear objective — to strengthen our organisation, earn the people’s confidence, and work towards forming our own government in Meghalaya,” he said.
“The political scenario is changing and the coming days will be decisive. We are prepared to seize this opportunity with determination, discipline and a clear sense of purpose,” Hek said.
He added, “Our goal is not merely to be a participant in Meghalaya’s politics, but to provide strong, stable and accountable leadership through a government of our own, rooted in the aspirations of the people.”
“With the blessings and guidance of our senior leadership, we continue to move forward with confidence and resolve,” Hek said.
