SHILLONG, MAY 4: Sticking to school textbooks and consistent study helped her clinch the top spot, says Meghashree Roy, who emerged as the arts stream topper in the MBOSE HSSLC 2026 results declared on Monday.
The St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong student scored 457 marks and admitted the result came as a surprise.
“I am very shock as well as happy because I never expected myself to get first position but I am happy,” Roy said.
Dismissing the need for extra coaching material, she said, “You don’t need an external source or other books. It is just that you need to study the books provided by the schools.”
Roy found the papers manageable with preparation. “I think I prepared quite well. It was pretty easy for me, though some of the questions were difficult in some subjects. But overall it was easy exams. If you study well, you can score,” she said.
Looking ahead, the topper has set her sights on the civil services.
“I planned to crack CUET and go to the university and study political science and ultimately pursuing civil service exams. I want to become a civil service officer,” she said. She is already preparing through UPSC interviews and general knowledge quizzes, which she noted “will be important for me for the CUET preparation.”
Principal Sonai Chacko said the school’s performance this year went beyond ranks.
“The success is the product of consistency, hard work, discipline and strong commitment of our teachers and students,” Chacko said.

To students, her message was clear: “Let this achievement inspire you. Success is not only about reaching the top but about striving to become the best of yourself. Stay focused, work consistently and believe in your ability. Challenges will come but they are only opportunity to become stronger.”
“Remember true success lies not only in marks but in developing integrity, compassion and responsibility. Continue to aim high and give your best in all that you do,” Chacko said, wishing students “a bright future filled with hope.”
