JNC locks Airtel office in Jowai, demands immediate action on poor connectivity

JOWAI, JUL 16: Members of the Western Zone of the Jaiñtia National Council, led by President Hamehi Bamon, locked the Airtel office at Ladthalaboh here on Thursday in protest against the company’s failure to improve network connectivity in the region.

The protest stems from an unfulfilled commitment made by Airtel officials during a meeting with the JNC on January 28.

The organization said the issue of poor network coverage was raised, with particular emphasis on Woodland Hospital at Sabah Muswang, where connectivity remains weak.

According to the JNC, Airtel representatives had assured that a network tower would be installed at Sabah Muswang within three to four months, subject to identification of a suitable site.

However, the JNC alleged that more than five months have passed with no progress on the ground. The organization also claimed that subsequent follow-ups with company officials elicited only vague responses and no clear timeline for the project.

Citing continued inaction and lack of accountability, the JNC Western Zone locked the office to press the company for a concrete commitment and immediate steps.

“The move was necessary to compel the company to act and address the problems faced by residents,” the organization said.

The JNC warned that it may resort to stronger measures if Airtel fails to respond promptly, stressing that reliable network connectivity is essential, especially for critical services such as healthcare at Woodland Hospital.
