Thangsko blast probe: Inquiry Commission to visit site on July 13

SHILLONG, MAY 8: The Commission of Inquiry probing the Thangsko blast incident in East Jaintia Hills District, chaired by Justice (Retd) RS Chauhan, concluded its three-day sitting at the State Guest House, Shillong, on Friday.
A statement issued by the Secretary of the Commission of Inquiry said the inquiry panel recorded submissions from multiple government agencies, trade bodies, and relatives of the victims over the course of the sitting held from May 6 to May 8.
During the sitting on May 6, the Commission recorded submissions made by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and Head of Forest (HoFF), Shillong, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd. (CMPDIL), Ranchi, Ministry of Coal, New Delhi and Director of Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR), Shillong.
On May 7, the Commission recorded submissions from the Shallang Area Trader Association, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills Mine Owners and Exporter Association.
The final day of the sitting on May 8 saw submissions from the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) and relatives of the victims.
“The next sitting of the Commission will be held from the 13th to 15th July 2026,” the statement said.
“The Commission will visit the incident site on the 13th July, 2026 and will continue to conduct enquiry.”
The Commission has issued a Public Notice in English and local newspapers and said that “those who wishes to depose or make further submissions may do so by writing to the Secretary, Commission of Inquiry, Room 228, Main Building, Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong or by emailing at commission.inquirymeg@gmail.com.”
