SHILLONG, MAY 25: Work on the Rs 51-crore skywalk project at Dympep near Sohra is 20% complete, with construction having started in November last year, NPP legislator Gavin Mylliem said on Monday.

The project is targeted for completion in the latter part of 2027.

“Actually the skywalk at Dympep, the work started in the month of November last year. The progress of the work is ongoing. According to the reports from the department, the ongoing progress is 20% till date,” Mylliem told reporters.

The Sohra MLA expressed confidence that the project would be a major draw for visitors once completed. “I am very confident that once completed this project will ultimately boost the tourism in the Dympep area and adjoining areas and it will be one of its kind because we do understand that the projection will be around to the length of 40 meters and it is one of the first in the North East,” he said.

“I think we will be able to attract many tourists when they come to this part of the area,” he added.

On the Nohkalikai tourism project, Mylliem said sanction was received in November last year under the PM-Divine scheme. The project cost is around Rs 38 crore.

“The tendering process has just been completed and it has just been allotted to the contractor. I think they will be starting the work in the few days to come,” he said.

Asked about environmental concerns, Mylliem said the detailed project report had accounted for them.

“Of course while preparing the detailed project report (DPR) consultants have taken all those things into consideration because we do understand that in these kinds of scheme, the PM-Divine scheme and many other schemes, the environment part is taken into consideration so I don’t think they will have any impact on the environment,” he stated.
