SHILLONG, SEPT 4: Amid speculation that MLAs from other parties are eyeing BJP, NPP National Vice President and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday asserted that NPP will not betray voters by changing its political colour.
“You elected us in this uniform, we will remain in this uniform. If we betray you, we betray Hynniewtrep, Hynniew Skum,” Dhar said at a campaign in Mawryngkneng.
He said some leaders want to join BJP now, but NPP stands by its principles.
On the Opposition jibe that NPP means BJP, Dhar said working with BJP at the Centre is for development, not ideology.
“We work together with BJP means we work for development. We never speak ill of friends or insult people,” he said.
Rubbishing allegations that MDA 2.0 is debt-ridden, Dhar said loans cannot be taken arbitrarily as there are financial rules and guidelines.
Projecting himself as a work-oriented leader, Dhar said, “Some leaders have only words without work. I don’t talk much, I work. That is why my people have trusted me for 20 years.”
He said governance issues must be debated inside the Assembly, not on the streets.
“If rulers don’t listen to people, they are not fit to be rulers. Inside Assembly we don’t do politics, here in the field we do politics,” he added.
