SHILLONG, MAY 6: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong on Thursday urged businessmen receiving extortion demands from the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council to immediately approach police, assuring that the government would “deal with them very firmly.”
“I saw the report and recently we have also discussed this. My only humble request to those who receives such messages, to please do not hesitate to come, file FIR, or inform us, even inform me, we are here to track it out,” Tynsong told reporters, referring to HNLC’s ongoing unlawful activity of serving demand notes to traders in the region.
“We are here to make sure that everybody is safe, everybody is doing business peacefully, so therefore any such kind of message, if they receive, I would request them to kindly send it to the police station, police out post or even to the district police headquarter,” he said.
On delays in reporting, the Deputy CM said, “Well, that is a different issue but you don’t know, what if the message was received 2-3 weeks back and they kept and did not share or inform us till it came out in the public.”
“So, suo-motu is a different issue but what I am saying is that those concerned stakeholders, in case if they receive such messages, I would request all of them, please don’t hesitate and bring it to the notice of the government and action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
Seeking to reassure the public, Tynsong said, “I would like to request the citizens of the state, don’t be scared, we are there but in case you don’t share such information with us, again we will have problems.”
“Kindly don’t be scared, be it HNLC, be it thief or any crook or criminals, please don’t be scared, we are there and we are firm and we will deal with them very firmly,” he added.
