SHILLONG, JUN 30: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday launched “Achievers of the Month”, a new programme to recognise exceptional individuals and push entrepreneurship across sectors in the state. The initiative will provide a platform for achievers to narrate their experiences, inspire young people, and demonstrate how government support has translated into real growth and innovation on the ground, according to officials.
At the launch, Sangma said the government can only facilitate through policies, infrastructure and support mechanisms, but economic momentum comes from enterprise.
“Government creates the base, but it is entrepreneurship that makes the economy take off,” he said, describing entrepreneurship as “the bedrock of sustainable livelihood generation and economic progress.”
He said the programme is meant to cut across sectors and bring forward stories that often go unheard. “We want to share your stories with the world. What may seem simple to you is truly inspiring for others,” the Chief Minister noted.
Declaring July as entrepreneurs’ month, Sangma said the government will hold engagements, storytelling sessions and digital outreach to feature their journeys. Entrepreneurs present at the launch spoke of their struggles and growth, thanking the Chief Minister for a platform that acknowledges their work and encourages new founders.
Addressing them, Sangma said, “Entrepreneurship is not easy, it comes with sleepless nights, uncertainty, and challenges. But it is passion and determination that define an entrepreneur.”
He added, “Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot succeed. It is your responsibility to prove them wrong.”
The Chief Minister said the government is pushing enterprise beyond business, with opportunities in sports, agriculture, music and other fields.
He pointed to ongoing support for farmers, artists and sportspersons, saying each sector offers space for job creation and enterprise.
He praised PRIME’s rural work for shifting grassroots entrepreneurship, sharing examples of ventures that began small and now supply to markets in metros.
In the coming months, “Achievers of the Month” will highlight people from sports, agriculture, education, public service and more to drive a state-wide recognition movement, Sangma said.
He also held an interaction with entrepreneurs who presented ideas to scale up and asked for sustained government backing to deepen the startup culture in Meghalaya.
Fifty entrepreneurs from different parts of the state were honoured during the programme.
Andy Kupar Lyngdoh, Founder & CEO of ParadigmatiX Private Limited, was named Achiever of the Month.
