SHILLONG, SEP 2: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has sought a PAC probe into the state government’s Rs 4,444.43 crore investment in 22 public sector enterprises that returned only Rs 0.20 crore in 2024-25.
In a petition to the PAC Chairperson on Wednesday citing the CAG’s State Finances report, HYC said as on March 31, 2025, the investment had yielded negligible returns, yet the government infused an additional Rs 467 crore during the year.
Pointing to the average 5.31% interest on borrowings against near-zero returns, the Council said it adds to the exchequer’s burden.
It also flagged that three profit-making PSUs paid no dividend while two were non-working.
“Rs 4,444.43 crore is public money. When it generates only Rs 0.20 crore, people deserve answers,” HYC President Roy Kupar Synrem said, demanding a viability review of all 22 SPSEs, examination of due diligence lapses, fixing of responsibility and a time-bound Action Taken Report.
