SHILLONG, JUL 22: The BJP Meghalaya has clarified that it does not endorse any recent statements circulating on social media and reported in sections of the media, calling them “false”.
In a statement issued Tuesday, party spokesperson Arnab Das said the party had sought clarification from its Yuva Morcha President, who “categorically denied making any such statements”.
Das said unverified claims attributed to social media handles cannot be treated as authentic, citing past instances of accounts of state leaders being hacked and misused.
“The party strongly denies making any such irresponsible statements as party statements always come through proper channels,” he said.
The BJP Meghalaya said it respects the fundamental right of students to protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over the NEET issue. However, it alleged that other political parties were attempting to “hijack” the protest for political gain.
The state unit also condemned violence against police authorities and urged the student community to maintain peace and not allow opposition parties to “take advantage of the volatile situation”.
The party strongly condemned the Congress party’s attempt to enter the official residence of the Prime Minister.
“This questions their intent and the threat posed to the PM’s security who heads the world’s largest democracy,” Das said.
He added that there is already a division between AAP and Congress over the protest, with both accusing each other of hijacking the event.
“BJP doesn’t endorse violence of any nature and would ensure that the protests remain by and large peaceful,” he stated.
Referring to the NEET paper leak, Das said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clarified that 13 arrests have been made and that the central government has acted swiftly to bring sweeping reforms.
“The country needs to be patient on this as the challenges to such reforms will need time and execution owing to the large demographics and federal structure involved,” he said.
“Our Prime Minister remains fully committed to bringing about a lasting change in our existing education system for a secured future of our students,” Das added.
