SHILLONG, AUG 10: Kwis Sumer of Muktapur village, East Jaintia Hills, who went missing on 15 July after going to Karnataka for work, has been safely brought back to Meghalaya.
He was located at Tiptur in Tumkur district and reunited with his family in Shillong on Monday.A memorandum on the case was submitted on 27 July.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma then took up the matter with the Karnataka government for interstate coordination.
A Meghalaya Police team headed by Lovish Garg, IPS, went to Bengaluru with Sumer’s clan representatives.
Working with Karnataka DGP, DIG(A) Iada Martin Marbaniang, IPS, and district SPs, the team traced his movements through technical inputs.
Police got a lead after Sumer contacted his family on social media with help from Kavi Kumar, who had sheltered him in Karnataka.
Acting on it, both state police forces tracked and rescued him.
“With the help of Karnataka Police especially Bangalore Police and the hard work of Meghalaya Police, we were able to find him. He is back safely,” Sangma said, thanking both forces and all stakeholders.
The CMO also acknowledged Karnataka Police, Meghalaya Police, civil society groups, D. Rockyer L. Nonglait for initial coordination, and Kavi Kumar for supporting Sumer.
Sumer expressed gratitude and has now returned to Muktapur.
