SHILLONG, MAY 27: Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar arrived in Shillong on Tuesday for a four-day official study tour aimed at examining legislative practices and parliamentary activities in Meghalaya, along with visits to sites of historical and cultural importance.
Dr. Kumar, who landed on May 26 and will remain in the state until May 29, is leading a delegation on a parliamentary exchange and learning visit. The tour includes a study of parliamentary functioning in Shillong and Sohra.
According to officials, the Speaker is accompanied by his spouse, Prabhawati Devi, along with officials and security personnel from the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
The visit will cover sessions on legislative procedures, committee systems, and administrative best practices.
The delegation is also scheduled to visit places of historical and cultural significance in and around Shillong and Sohra to gain insight into the state’s heritage. Officials said the tour is part of a broader effort to promote cooperation between state legislatures.
“The visit is expected to further strengthen inter-legislative cooperation and encourage the exchange of best practices in parliamentary governance between states,” an official familiar with the programme said.
Dr Kumar’s itinerary includes interactions with the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat to understand the functioning of House proceedings, digital initiatives, and public outreach mechanisms adopted by the state legislature.
