White category MSMEs to get faster clearances: Meghalaya Cabinet approves Ordinance

SHILLONG, OCT 13: In a bid to further improve ease of doing business, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved the Meghalaya MSME Facilitation and Establishment of Operations Ordinance.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the Ordinance will simplify the process of obtaining licenses, clearances and NOCs for MSMEs without exempting them from any mandatory requirements.

“It will allow MSMEs to apply for clearances at multiple levels without waiting for one to come through. It will give them some space and time and make the process smoother, efficient and hassle-free,” Sangma said.

He said Meghalaya has ranked high in removing regulations to improve ease of doing business, and the Ordinance is another step in that direction as per Government of India guidelines.

Sangma said the benefit will for now be limited to white category industries that do not require Consent to Establish (CTE) or Consent to Operate (CTO) from the pollution control board.

“White category industries only require normal clearances like MUDA, municipal and other registrations. All these will be facilitated and made faster and smoother,” he added.
