Deputy Chief Minister incharge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday conducted an inspection to the newly constructed Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex in West Jaintia Hills District.
The sports complex, which is the first in the Jaintia Hills region, will be inaugurated by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on January 23.
The estimated project cost is Rs 25 crore. The project was funded through the State Plan Scheme and Sports Authority of India’s Khelo India Infrastructure Scheme.
The project includes development of an artificial football turf, synthetic athletic track, spectator galleries, changing rooms and office space.
Dhar, who is also local MLA of Nartiang constituency, said the inspection was part of the preparation for the inauguration of the sports complex at Wahiajer.
He said that the objective of the government to develop the sports complex is to encourage the youth to take up sports as a career. “It will surely unlock the potential of our youth in the region,” he added.
Dhar also requested people from the constituency and the region to attend the inaugural function on January 23.
