TURA, AUG 28: To promote journalism and related fields in Garo Hills through education, social and charitable initiatives the Tura Press Club was formed on Saturday.The formation followed an emergent meeting of working journalists from all corners of Garo hills region on Saturday last at the office of the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations.
The Tura Press Club was formed to establish a professional and cultural
platform for journalists working in Garo Hills and encourage the highest standards of professional integrity and skill in the reporting of news and also help educate a new generation of journalists thereby contributing to expand the freedom and independence of the fourth estate.
The meeting unanimously elected David D Shira as president, Chean R Marak as vice president, Silvan A Sangma, general secretary, Salniatchi D Ch Marak as joint secretary and Lenient D Sangma as treasurer.
The newly formed Tura Press Club met on Tuesday and condoled the untimely demise of Meghalaya’s senior journalist Suraj Joshi. A minute of silence was observed during the condolence meeting. The TPC has expressed its deepest sympathies to the bereaved family of the deceased.-By Our Reporter
