SHILLONG, SEPT 8: The tourist taxi dispute between Meghalaya and Assam has been resolved following a joint meeting of taxi associations from both states in Shillong on Tuesday.
The meeting, attended by seven associations from Assam and five from Meghalaya, was chaired by Transport Commissioners of both states and later jointly by Meghalaya Deputy CM in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar and Assam Minister Atul Bora.
Dhar said Assam has agreed to provide parking space and toilet facilities at the airport for Meghalaya taxis and both states will ensure police coordination to prevent harassment.
“Both associations have committed to work together. Remaining issues will be resolved within a few days,” Dhar said, adding that a sub-committee headed by both Transport Commissioners will meet as and when needed.
Bora said the issue, which followed the August 19 incident in Shillong, was resolved after a meeting in Guwahati on August 22.
“Protestors withdrew their stir after the meeting. We are implementing the resolutions adopted on August 23. Now the situation is normal,” he said.
