SHILLONG, JULY 3: Newly elected Congress legislator Bluebell R Sangma was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Meghalaya assembly speaker AT Mondal at the state legislative assembly on Friday even as she said that tackling the menace of militancy will be her foremost responsibility.

.Bluebell Sangma, who was elected in the recently held Chokpot bye-poll, took the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of chief minister Mukul Sangma and his cabinet colleagues besides senior government officials.

Speaking at the sideline of the ceremony, Bluebell Sangma, said, “My priority will be to take up the matter related to the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.”  She, however, said as she is a new legislator she will have to work with the home minister Roshan Warjri and discuss this particular issues with her.

When asked whether the government has done enough in tackling militancy problem in Garo hills region, Sangma said the government has done what it can but said it was not enough as more and more undergrounds are coming up.

Saying that the best suggestion she could give to the the government is to work hard to bring them (militants) back to mainstream, Sangma revealed, “Last time also one underground telephone me expressing his desire to come out and surrender.”

Sangma, however, said she cannot say what lures the youths to join militancy in Chokpot, and informed that some of the militants are also educated.- By Our Reporter
