SHILLONG, JUL 28: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 in Meghalaya has entered its final phase with only one day left for the house-to-house distribution and digitization of Enumeration Forms, Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari said on Tuesday.
As of July 28, out of a total electorate of 23,49,645, 23,40,764 Enumeration Forms have been distributed, achieving 99.62% coverage.
Simultaneously, 22,78,071 forms have been digitized, accounting for 96.95% of the electorate.
Dr Tiwari convened a meeting with representatives of recognized National and State Political Parties to review the progress of SIR and discuss pending activities ahead of the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll.
During the meeting, the CEO shared updates on form distribution, digitization, and verification of ASSD cases.
He urged political parties to continue extending cooperation to ensure 100% coverage before the exercise concludes on July 29.
He appreciated the constructive suggestions from parties and acknowledged the role of over 1600 Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties in assisting electors and ensuring transparency.
“The continued cooperation between the election machinery and political parties has significantly contributed to the successful implementation of SIR across the state,” Dr Tiwari said.
As part of monitoring, the CEO has been holding regular review meetings and weekly video conferences with District Election Officers, EROs and AEROs to address field issues and ensure timely completion as per ECI timelines.The Election Commission of India has also approved the rationalisation of polling stations in the state, leading to the addition of 86 new polling stations. With this, the total number of polling stations in Meghalaya has increased from 3,551 to 3,637.
Dr Tiwari extended appreciation to ECI, DEOs, EROs, AEROs, BLOs, BLAs, technical teams, political parties, Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas, media and civil society for their support in making the house-to-house phase a success.
“So far, we have not received any complaint and whatever issues come, we have already tried to address them,” he added.
