SHILLONG, JUL 30: The state government is willing to hold consultations to address public concerns over the Shillong Ropeway project, Tourism Minister Timothy D Shira said on Thursday.
Shira said all necessary approvals for the project have been secured and that the work was initiated under the previous Tourism Minister.
“That was not done during my time. I have been informed that everything has been done properly and all required permissions have been obtained from the concerned authorities,” he said, responding to questions on alleged tree felling.
On demands for further dialogue amid fears of water scarcity and environmental impact, the Minister said:”Consultation will take place if there is anything. It is necessary to dispel apprehensions and the information gap. A bridge should be built with those who are criticizing that the government has not done things properly.”
He added that forest clearance and an environment certificate were already taken before work began.
“Departmental officers did whatever was necessary. Forest clearance has also been obtained, and an environment certificate has been issued. So what more is left, I don’t know,” Shira said.
