SHILLONG, SEPT 28: Meghalaya government on Sunday invited concerned citizens to come forward and share information related to the Wednesday’s firing that killed two civilians in East Jaintia hills district with the magisterial inquiry that has been instituted to probe into the incident.
“If there are any individuals having any information and desirous of giving evidence on the said incident may file by affidavit or in person to the Additional District Magistrate from October 15 to 17,” ADM of West Jaintia hills district SS Syiemlieh, who is heading the inquiry said on Sunday.
Two civilians including a woman were shot dead while five others were injured when a firing incident that took place in Mookhep village in East Jaintia Hills District on September 24 during the ongoing economic strike sponsored by the MIPRL to protest against the NGT’s ban on rat hole coal mining in Meghalaya..
The two who were killed have been identified as S Phawa and D Siangshai.
The magisterial inquiry has been directed to submit its report to the state government within a month time.
Meanwhile, the East Jaintia hills district administration held a District Peace Co-ordination Committee meeting on Saturday to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
The meeting was also attended by local MLAs – Justin Dkhar and Hopeful Bamon besides headmen from the different villages falling under the district.
During the meeting, it was resolved to maintain and spread the message of peace and tranquility in the district.
The committee has decided to have its next round of sitting on October 6.-By Our Reporter
