Pynursla admin issues advisory, urges use of alternative routes amid landslide risk

SHILLONG, JUN 22: Residents of villages under Pynursla C&RD Block have been cautioned against venturing near a landslide-hit site, with authorities warning that the ground remains unstable and could trigger further collapses.
Issuing the advisory on Monday, Block Development Officer Dr. L. Kharmon, MCS, said the area continues to be hazardous due to the threat of fresh slides, falling debris and sudden ground subsidence.
He stressed that no one should approach, enter or assemble near the site until officials declare it safe.
The Block administration has asked locals to follow all instructions issued by response teams and to stay clear of barricaded or marked-off zones. Special caution was urged for children, elderly residents and livestock, which are most vulnerable in such conditions.
People were also requested to alert local authorities immediately if they observe new cracks, shifting earth, or any other signs of instability.
Commuters have been advised to avoid the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch for now. Instead, safer travel has been recommended via the Pynursla-Dawki-Amlarem road or the Pynursla-Nongjri-Sohra route.
The advisory, issued in the interest of public safety, underlines that cooperation from residents is key to preventing injuries and loss of life during the monsoon, when slopes in East Khasi Hills remain highly vulnerable.
