SHILLONG, DEC 8: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will announce its first list of candidates for the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections before Christmas.
“We will declare the first list, which may consist of 7-8 candidates, before Christmas,” PDF leader and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh told reporters on Thursday.
The Mawkynrew legislator said the party is planning to contest from 20 constituencies. According to him, many people have approached the party for tickets.
The PDF has four MLAs which include cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem), Jason S Mawlong (Umsning) and Gavin Miguel Mylliem (Sohra) – in the 60 member House.
Dohling and Mawlong however are likely to join other political parties ahead of the polls.
When asked, Lyngdoh said that two MLAs are yet to communicate their decision to the party in this regard. However, there are people from their constituencies who have also approached the party for a ticket.
He said that the second list of candidates along with the election manifesto of the party will be released in January next year.
The PDF leader further expressed confidence that his party will perform well in the coming elections.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh maintained that the party is not keen to have a pre-poll alliance with any political party as it prefers to go alone in the upcoming elections. He indicated that there is already an understanding for a post-poll alliance with like-minded political parties.
