SHILLONG, OCT 8: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP National Vice President Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday rubbished allegations that many NPP MLAs, including from Garo Hills, are planning to join the BJP.
Reacting sharply to the claim made by BJP leader A L Hek, Dhar said the NPP remains fully united and such claims will only invite public ridicule.
“There is no difference because all political parties want to strengthen themselves. To just claim is easy but to take them, they cannot,” Dhar said.
Taking a jibe at the BJP, he said, “If you forcibly claim, you will be laughed at by the people. For example, if you claim someone’s wife, how would you feel? I don’t want to comment on other parties.”
Dhar asserted that there is no discontent within the NPP.
“NPP is a very united party. That claim by Bah Hek that there are some (MLAs), I don’t know. We as NPP with 33 MLAs, we are fully united,” he said.
Hek had recently claimed that several NPP legislators, particularly from Garo Hills, were in touch with the BJP and keen to join the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls.
