SHILLONG, OCT 7: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Wednesday defended the government’s road infrastructure push amid complaints that poor connectivity is hampering health services in rural Meghalaya.
Asked if he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Shylla said the government is not waiting for a tragedy to act.
“See, it is not only because we are waiting for an incident to happen,” he said.
Citing the scale of works undertaken recently, Shylla said, “If you see from statehood, I think in the last 7-8 years, we have taken up maximum construction of roads.”
“But we cannot do everything at one go because we have so many priority areas to look after,” he added.
The minister asserted that connecting remote habitations remains a priority.
“I can say that the government is fully concerned and we are trying our best so that all the unconnected villages will be connected with proper roads. Once again, I would like to reiterate that it is not easy to do everything at one go,” Shylla said.
“Definitely, the government is trying its best to make sure that all the unconnected villages will be connected with proper connectivity,” he said.
