NONGSTOIN, DEC 30: A coal laded truck bearing a registration no ML 05 J- 9627 turned turtle and fell into a gorge seriously injuring nine persons on Monday evening. The accident took place at around 4.30 pm
It is learnt that the truck was returning from a coal quarry at Sohtampiaw village to Shallang where the coal was suppose to be unloaded.
In another accident in West Khasi Hills more than ten coal labourers who were returning home to Assam for New Year celebration with their family when they met with an accident on reaching Kyllonmathei village about 5 kilometers from Shallang.
It is learnt that the driver of the truck, in which they were travelling, was drunk and he was unable to control the vehicle.
The injured persons are yet to be identified. The coal mine owner where the labourers were working rush to the spot and the injured have been taken to Shallang PHC while two of them who are said to be quite serious have been taken to Assam for treatment.
The truck driver has reportedly fled.- By Our Reporter
