Shillong, Nov 12: Ngos in Meghalaya demanded the resignation of state urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for her alleged involvement in the manipulation and tampering of marks as unearthed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) when she was holding the education portfolio. The ngos also threatened to file an FIR against chief minister Mukul Sangma if he delays in taking actions against ministers and legislators involved in the education scam.
Ngos also asked the government to scrap the results of those candidates appointed through unfair means.
The demand for resignation was made at a public meeting convened by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) against the tampering and manipulation of score sheets to favour some candidates recommended by ministers and politicians during the recruitments for the assistant lower primary schools teachers in 2010..
“We demand the resignation of the then education minister as she had committed crime and violates the rights of those deserving candidates,” FKJGP president Joe Marwein said in the meeting at Motphran Monday.
Marwein said, “The government must also scrap the results of those candidates being appointed on recommendation made by the tainted legislators and ministers.”
Appreciating the candidates who had filed the case against the department for manipulation of results, Khasi Students Union (KSU) president Daniel Khyriem said, “It is time that we demand the state government to introduce transparent policy in the recruitment process by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), District Selection Committees (DSCs) and at the department level of the state.”
Khyriem suggested video recording of the personal interviews and to make available the score sheets of all the candidates to scrutinize their own performance.
Speakers in the meeting also castigated the chief minister Mukul Sangma for mishandling the entire situation..
Calling the chief minister a “fool” for ordering to find the leakage of the CBI report, Meghalaya Right to Information Movement (MRTIM) activist Angela Rygnad said, “The CM is a fool to ask for the source of the leakage of the report instead of him taking actions against those involved in the education scam.” She said politicians have commercialized the running of the government as they even entertain bribery in the teaching profession which is considered sacred.
Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) president Agnes Kharshiing attacked the CBI for failing to register a case for further investigation suspecting that the agency has been influenced by politicians.
Kharshiing even threaten to file an FIR against the chief minister if he delays to take actions against the ministers and legislators who are involved in the education scam. – By Our Reporter
