SHILLONG, MAY 25: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured that the state government would examine the demand for creation of a new civil sub-division in Ranikor, South West Khasi Hills District.
The assurance was given to a delegation led by Congress MLA from Ranikor and former Congress minister Martin M Danggo during a meeting held here on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Danggo informed that the meeting with the chief minister was a positive one. “He (Conrad) has admitted that the demand for upgrading the Ranikor Administrative Unit into a civil sub-division was a genuine one and assured that the matter will be examined by the government.”
He informed that a copy of the memorandum submitted by the Chairman of Task Force Committee in 2007, was also submitted to the chief minister for ready reference and necessary action on the matter.
Earlier this month, a joint memorandum to the chief minister was also submitted by Danggo, Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and former deputy chief minister Rowel Lyngdoh, who is also former deputy chief minister.
On the other hand, Danggo informed that the government is also requested to consider creation of two new community & rural development (C&RD) blocks at Khonjoy and Wahkaji area.
The delegation also urged the state government to establish a community college (green field) in Ranikor area.
Danggo said although Ranikor area is regarded as one of the most educationally backward area but it is blessed with numbers of secondary schools.
“However, students passed out from these secondary schools every year have to come a long way to Shillong, Nongstoin and even to Baghmara for their post matriculate and further studies as there is not even a single college in the entire constituency,” he said.
Meanwhile, the other demands include upgradation of three public health centres (PHCs) – Rangthong, Khonjoy and Wahkahi – into community health centres (CHCs) and five sub-centres to PHCs.
