SHILLONG, OCT 15: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday called for religious harmony, saying unity and mutual understanding are essential for a peaceful society.
Dhar was addressing the 33rd All Faith–All Religion Sadbhavana Sammelan organised by the Central Puja Committee (CPC), Meghalaya in collaboration with the Rilbong Durga Puja Committee, Shillong. He was accompanied by local MLA and Arts & Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai.
Emphasising respect for every religion and belief, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “A Hindu should become a better Hindu, a Christian a better Christian, and followers of every religion should become better practitioners of their own faith.”
He said religious differences should never divide people but instead encourage mutual respect, love and peaceful coexistence.
Reaffirming Meghalaya’s tradition of communal harmony, Dhar said people of different faiths have always lived together in unity and brotherhood and that tradition must be preserved.
Held under the theme “Get-Together of Harmony,” the Sammelan served as a platform to strengthen interfaith understanding and promote peace among communities.
