SHILLONG, JUL 18: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Saturday inaugurated the long-awaited community hall of Dorbar Shnong Modop Nartiang and the new building of Nartiang Modop Government LP School.

Calling it a historic moment, Dhar said the village had waited nearly 160 years for a proper dorbar hall.
“Under my MLA scheme in 2024-25, 45 hall projects have been sanctioned. This may look small, but it is a programme that will be remembered,” he said.

The Deputy CM stressed that building two major school structures in one area was “not easy”, but necessary as many students cannot afford to travel to Jowai or Shillong.

He flagged high dropout rates at the higher secondary level due to poor infrastructure and financial problems at home.

Dhar said the government is pushing to upgrade secondary and higher secondary schools across the state.

“Around 2,500 schools have already received support for infrastructure and repairs. Thousands of crores are being spent on education, but the needs are still huge,” he added.

The event opened with a prayer by Rev. H.L. Pale and a welcome song by the Modop and Kpermyrshieh Village Organization. Dignitaries present included JHADC CEM Thombor Shitwat, SDSEO West Jaintia Hills E. Synrem, school head teacher K. Thubru, Waheh Shnong D. Dkhar, Dorbar Secretary Y. Lamare, Youth Adviser H. Khynriam and Chairman T. Phawa.
