SHILLONG, OCT 13: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved a minor amendment to the Meghalaya Cooperative Societies Act, 2015 and cleared the official list of holidays for 2027.

After chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the amendment to the Cooperative Societies Act was carried out as per instructions from the Government of India.

“For a very small partial amendment of the Meghalaya Cooperative Society Act 2015. This is basically being done as per the guidelines and instruction from Government of India and postal department,” Sangma said.

Explaining the change, he said, “The point is very simple that one word is being changed in the Act which is from registered post to speed post in Section 21 (1) because now obviously registered post is an old concept and speed post is now the new concept and therefore the postal department, Government of India has asked all state governments to amend this particular word in the Act in the respective states. It is a small word nomenclature change.”

On the holiday list, the chief minister said there is no major change from last year.

“The list of holidays for the year 2027, as you are aware we have always the list of official holidays that are there and we have cleared that list today. It is the same like last year, there is no change in the list,” he said.
