SHILLONG, MAR 23: A media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) was constituted by the Returning Officer of Shillong parliamentary constituency to monitor any paid news during the ensuing Lok Sabha elections slated on April 9.
The committee would monitor news reports, articles, columns, advertisements related to elections in print and electronic media, returning officer Sanjay Goyal said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
According to him, any printed or broadcasted material in the form of news reports, articles, columns, if found to favour a particular candidate or political party, causing undue influence on the electorate may fall into the purview of ‘paid news’ as per various instructions issued by the election commission of India (ECI).
