MCA felicitation

SHILLONG, JULY 22:  Honorary secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) Naba Bhattacharjee was today felicitated for being appointed to a committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Bhatarcharjee was recently named in the special committee on Lodha reforms along with seven other cricket administrators including former India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the felicitation programme here, Bhattacharjee said that Meghalaya along with other states in the North East region were all along being deprived of the benefits by the BCCI.

According to him, though the NE states, which are an integral part of the cricketing fraternity, are having talents but yet are being deprived.

However stating that in recent time things are looking up for cricket in the NE, he said, “Efforts are being made to improve the game in Meghalaya but we still have a long way to go.”

Informing that cricketing infrastructure like ground are being developed in the state, Bhattacharjee said in Tura, West Garo Hills District space has been allotted at Alotgre for a cricket stadium.

Earlier this year, he said that under the programme “Promotion of Cricket in Rural Meghalaya” the process of providing infrastructure at Sohra, known as the wettest place on earth, have started.

A concrete cricket pitch with box nets etc funded by MCA was inaugurated.

Meanwhile, he informed that the MCA is focusing on the developing women’s cricket in the state even as he said that there are many talented players especially from South West Khasi Hills district.

He also said that the aim of the MCA is to produce players from the state who will play for the country in the next ten years.
