“We have decided to stop entry of these huge trucks to Mawlai area for loading and unloading goods at the Food Corporation of Indian (FCI) godown till the authorities come up with alternative arrangement to ease the present problem of congestion faced by the people of the area,” FKGJP-Mawlai circle president M Dkhar told reporters.

According to Dkhar, there is no timing fixed for the trucks to enter and leave the place till today besides they are also park unsystematically along the road outside the compound of the FCI godown despite the fact that the road is very busy one as it go between Mawlai, NEHU to Polo as well as to Mawlai Mawroh and even to NEIGRIHMS.

“There are so many trucks along this road daily and the parking of these trucks extends up to the road leading to Mawlai Mawroh,” Dkhar informed.

Dkhar said, “This has caused great inconveniences to the pedestrians especially school students during school hours and emergency and the hardship that  the general public travelling along this road has to endure as there is no supervision and regulations of the parking of these trucks.”

Dkhar also said despite the fact that the Dorbar Dong Mawlai Nongmali-3 has written several times to Shillong Traffic Police informing them about the situation and requesting assistance to regulate and oversee the flow of traffic which so far has been ignored.

“We have proposed to the authority to regulate the timing for entry of these trucks into the area. There should be a no entry for trucks in the morning from 7am to 11am and evening from 2pm to 4pm,” Dkhar said.

Dkhar further informed that during the course of the discussion, the ADC has assured the delegation that he would soon convene a meeting with the FCI and police department to find out ways and means to address the issue.
