SHILLONG, MAY 26: The 111th edition of the Mahindra Great Escape, one of India’s most popular off-road adventures, concluded in Shillong amidst much fanfare with more than 30 4WD, vehicles from the Mahindra stable charting the challenging route.
The Mahindra Great Escape of the season saw participation from Mahindra customers from Shillong and other neighbouring north eastern areas.
The event attracted an overwhelming response from off-road adventurers, leaving everyone asking for more.
The rally was flagged off from Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam, Ri Bhoi district and snaked its way to Shillong and while providing an opportunity to explore the area’s scenic terrain to those who took part in the event.
The event saw participation from the entire stable of Mahindra vehicles including the Bolero, Scorpio, Legend and the extreme off-roader, Thar 4×4 – each one representing the company’s tough and rugged DNA.
These iconic Mahindra SUVs negotiated the arduous hilly terrain of Shillong and en route, the convoy of vehicles discovered unexplored trails.
Nestled amidst the tall pine conifers and rolling hills, Shillong offered a perfect picture postcard setting for the Great Escape of the season. Popularly known as the ‘Abode of the Clouds’, the undulating hilly terrain of Shillong with streams and obstacles was a challenge for the experienced and amateurs alike.
Every vehicle and its participants had their share of challenges. Participants also got a chance to soak in the cool climate and enjoy the one of a kind scenic beauty – whether it was the verdant landscape, mountainous gorges, forest wilderness or gurgling rivulets.
Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Nayer, Chief Marketing Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “We are delighted to host the first Mahindra Great Escape of season 4 in Shillong and give a chance to our customers to enjoy the marvels of nature, while testing the tough and enduring nature of the Mahindra vehicles. This is one of the most coveted destinations amongst off-roading enthusiasts, for its unexplored terrain.”
Initiated in 2013, the concept of an all-India ‘Mahindra Off-Road Trophy’ has seen fierce competition as participants got a chance to demonstrate their off-road driving skills through different stages of obstacles.
Winners from various regional Great Escapes, including Shillong, Goa, Lonavala, Hyderabad, Vagamon, Chandigarh, Ooty, Hyderabad, Sakleshpur, Gurgaon and Pushkar, will compete against each other for the trophy at the finals.
Mahindra Adventure also enters official teams in some of India’s most popular motorsports events including Dakshin Dare, Raid de Himalaya, Desert Storm and INRC.
To spread the DNA of off-roading, the Mahindra Adventure team has also recently launched the Mahindra Adventure Off- Road Training Academy in Igatpuri.- By Our Reporter
