SHILLONG, FEB 16: Slamming the Congress for making false promises and describing the party’s manifesto as election stunt, United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate and its working president Paul Lyngdoh said even Indira Gandhi had promise to do away with poverty in the manifesto long time ago but instead the poor were and are continuing to be removed.
Taking part in the common platform organized by the Dorbar Shnong of Mawprem on Saturday for the candidates contesting the 18-West Shillong constituency, Lyngdoh called upon the electorates of the constituency to show wisdom in scratching the motive of the candidate or the party who makes such promises before casting their votes.
Taking a potshot at the Congress, Lyngdoh raked up the delay of the Congress led government of Mukul Sangma in completing the housing project for the poor in Mawprem. He said “The housing project is one glaring example of the promises forgotten by the Congress as it is yet to be completed.”
Lyngdoh not only launched an offensive at Congress candidate, Mahendro Rapsang but he also said the fight is not only against Mohindro, per se, but also against Mukul Sangma since Sangma does not want anybody from the Khasi and Jaintia hill to become the chief minister.
Lyngdoh said, “The regional party shall prove Sangma wrong”.
Lyngdoh’s opponent Rapsang, however, spoke very little promising to work for the benefit of the public. He said, “I may speak less but I shall work more than what I speak.”
Independent candidate Donald Shampru also took part in the common platform and presented his road map as to how he will work for the development of the constituency if elected. – By Our Reporter
