SHILLONG, AUG 22 Of the 164 cases, 148 has been disposed off in a Lok Adalat organized by the District & Session Judge Ri Bhoi district in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLA) at Nongpoh on Friday in which 4 court rooms were set up for the convenience of the litigants.
Ri Bhoi district & session judge MB Challam during the introductory speech informed that Lok Adalat is a public court which requires no pleaders but conciliator, no legal procedures as in the court rooms but friendly ways of solving the disputes.
Only simple offence and motor accident cases and not complicated or criminal cases could be disposed in Lok Adalat, Challam further said. She also informed that cases once settled in a public court are final.
The main objective of the public court is to decrease the pending cases in the court of law and help the public particularly the economically weak section of the people to save their valuable time and money.- By Our Reporter
