SHILLONG,FEB 17: A one day Livestock Mela cum Workshop on the theme “Livestock and Poultry Enterprise- A Holistic Approach” organized by the Office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, East Khasi Hills under the National Livestock Mission 2014-2015 was inaugurated on Wednesday by KC Khyriem, Parliamentary Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department 2015 at Mawngap under Mawphlang C&RD Block.
The programme was also attended by PS Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Dr JS Jyrwa, Director of AH & Veterinary, NK Lyngdoh, Lyngdoh of Hima Mawphlang, Dr. (Mrs) W Papang, Joint Director AH& Veterinary, Dr. (Mrs) A.Pakyntein, District A.H. & Veterinary Officer and more than 100 farmers from the villages under the Mawphlang C&RD Block.
During the inaugural programme, chief guest KC Khyriem highlighted the objectives of the mission which is to ensure quantitative and qualitative improvement in livestock production systems and capacity building of all stakeholders and promoting skill based training and dissemination of technologies for reducing cost of production, and improving production of livestock sector.
He also urged the farmers to make full use of the knowledge imparted during the workshop so as to help them increase livestock and poultry production.
The topics for the workshop includes “Modern approach to Livestock and Poultry Management” and “General Health Care and Disease Management in Livestock and Poultry” conducted by Dr. (Mrs) OM Kharkongor, AH&VO, Livestock and Dr. (Ms) I Warjri, A.H. & V.O. Clinical Lab, Shillong.
13 stalls put up by different line departments like Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture during the Mela, displayed broiler rabbits, fish, turkeys, as well as dairy products.-By Our Reporter
