SHILLONG, JUNE 16: Shillong Lajong juniors defeated Malki SC 4-2 today on Thursday at the JN stadium in the U 18 Shillong Premier League. Today’s match was also the last game for both sides.
Lajong juniors are now on 13 points in second position but will have to wait one more day as Nangkiew Irat are due to play their last game on Friday. If Nangkiew wins their last match, they will also be on 13 points and will automatically advance to the finals with the head to head advantage.
Lajong juniors took the lead in the 10th minute of the match. Donbok was one on one with the keeper and netted a fine shot.
Alison Kharsyntiew’s boys displayed quality football today on the pitch. They were a more dominant side than their opponents Malki Sports Club.
In the 21st minute, Malki got a free kick after a foul was committed by Lajong player. But their shot went off target.
After a good run of play, Samuel Kynshi found himself one on one with the keeper and headed the ball into the net in the 26th minute to make it 2-0.
The Reds kept pressing forward and were working very hard in front of goal. In the 34th minute they were rewarded for their efforts when Dameki scored from a Samuel Kynshi cross giving Lajong a 3-0 lead. Malki’s hopes were low after the three goal deficit.
The half time ended with 3 goals in favour of Lajong.
As the second half started Malki played much better than the first half and were troubling the Lajong defenders.
Lajong juniors also continued to press forward and were looking very eager to score more goals. They also got a free kick in the very first minute of second half but Tridev’s shot went over the bar.
However, in the 51st minute, Tridev netted from a Samuel Kynshi cross and made it 4-0.
Malki Sports Club got very lucky and Paski Nongrum managed to score their first goal of the match in the 64th minute. Malki players started combining well and found their second goal in the 70th minute when B wanniang scored via free kick.
The match ended 4-2 with Lajong on the winning side. The Reds are now in second place with 13 points.- By Our Reporter
