SHILLONG, MAY 23: In line with the Centre’s decision, Meghalaya will resume the Kolkata to Shillong flight services from next week.
“The state government has again decided to resume the flight services from Kolkata to Umroi most likely by next week,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a review meeting held on Saturday.
He said that decision was taken in view of the Centre’s decision to restart the flight services throughout the nation beginning May 25.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has also issued the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for passenger movement at all airports.
Earlier during the just concluded reassembled budget session of the state’s Assembly, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that the Kolkata to Shillong flight has already started just before the COVID-19 situation.
He had also said that the government was also keen to ensure direct flight starts from Delhi to Shillong and that the Expression of Interest (EOI) was almost being finalized.
The CM had further informed that the government had already written to the Airport Authority of India for reviving of the Baljek airport. “We want to ensure not only passenger flights but cargo as well should start from Baljek airport,” he had stated.
