SHILLONG, JAN 20: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Shri. F. M. Dopth, today launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme (IPPI) 2020 in the presence of Dr. (Mrs.) J. Lakiang, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District at the Community Health Centre, Khliehriat. The programme was organised by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District.
The Deputy Commissioner, while addressing on the occasion advised all the parents to actively participate in the Pulse Polio Vaccination Program and to take their children to the Health Centres present throughout the district to get the polio drops.
He also encouraged the Health Department to give their best for the success of the programme and he hoped that such immunization programme will bring about a positive outcome and improve the health scenario of the people in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also administered two drops of Polio Vaccine to a 3 year old child followed by marking the little finger on her left hand as a declaration of the launching of the IPPI programme starting from the 20th January to 22nd January 2020.
Earlier in the programme, Dr. Handaka .L. Suting while giving a brief introduction about the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (IPPI) informed the gathering that the objective of the programme is to eradicate poliomyelitis by vaccinating all children under five years of age. She also stated that the polio immunization is very important as it acts as a preventive mechanism for children against the polio virus.
The launching programme was also attended by Dr. C. Tariang, Medical & Health Officer of the 100-Bedded Hospital, Khliehriat and the Officials and Staffs of the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District.
