TURA, MAR 25: The Garo Students Union (GSU) has sought for a magisterial probe against sub-inspector of Rongram police station in West Garo Hills, who had assaulted a transport corporation driver on Tuesday, while the bus was en route to Shillong from Tura.
The highhandedness of the police officer led to traffic jam for over an hour causing inconvenience to the passenger of the several buses, which were on its way to Guwahati and Shillong.
The sub-inspector had no reasons to assault the driver and arbitrarily stopped him and manhandled the driver, who is aged and have sustained severe injuries. The passengers were agitated at the move of the police personnel and stopped the cop from further hurting the driver.
In the melee, unidentified miscreants torched the police gypsy, which was parked at Goeragre locality, in the outskirt of Tura town, where the incident took place.
In a letter to Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi, additional secretary of GSU Balrang Momin said, “Nobody is above law and no one can take the law in their hand, police cannot assault a person for no reason.
We condemn the assault on the bus driver by the police, who is working for the public welfare and demand to take an immediate action against the culprit (sub-inspector) and demand magisterial inquiry to the incident”.-From Our Correspondent
