SHILLONG, NOV 30: The State Cabinet today approved the proposal for tabling the Legislative Assembly (Members’ Salaries and Allowances) Amendment Bill, 2017 in the upcoming winter session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from December 8.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting held here, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that earlier the cabinet had come up with the amendment Ordinance for reducing the monthly salaries of MLAs by Rs 8,000.
“The Ordinance therefore will have to be replaced by a regular Bill for consideration of the august House,” Sangma said.
Earlier in the last budget session of the Assembly, the ruling Congress-led government had passed an amendment to increase the salaries of MLAs amounting to Rs 2.10 lakh per month.
However with this decision to reduce the salary, the total emolument of the MLAs will now come down to only Rs two lakh, two thousand per month.
